Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) is the united voice of Australians who are blind or vision impaired.

Our mission is to achieve equity and equality by our empowerment, by promoting positive community attitudes, and by striving for high quality and accessible services which meet our needs.

Whether you are blind, have a vision impairment , a family member or friend of a person who is blind or vision impaired, BCA is here to assist you.

We provide information, peer support, individual and systemic advocacy, and consultancy services. Our Branches act as local lobby groups and provide opportunities for social interaction for members.

Employment Opportunity: National Policy Officer

Blind Citizens Australia (the national representative voice of people who are blind or vision-impaired), offers a challenging opportunity for a highly motivated person with demonstrated policy experience to contribute to our team.

You will work as part of a small national team either from our Melbourne office, or remotely. We encourage applications from people who are blind or vision-impaired.

Applications are invited for the position of National Policy Officer, at 30 hours per week for 12 months with the possibility of extension. Salary will be based on experience and salary sacrificing is available.

As National Policy Officer you will develop and promote Blind Citizens Australia’s public policy and provide support to Blind Citizens Australia’s National Policy Council with consultation and policy development.

This week on program 497 of New Horizons: a couple of weeks ago we heard from Jon Coleman, who told us of the podcast memoir he had created with David Blyth. In this week’s program, we hear a short excerpt from the first episode. The podcast, “Blindness – no barrier”, is available on the BCA website. It is a fascinating window into David’s life, and well worth a listen, especially if you’re interested in the changes in services for people who are blind or vision impaired over the past 60 years or so.
