News from New York from Lauren Henley

The Americans With Disabilities Act appears to have had a very positive impact over here. I got a cab from the airport complete with talking taxi meter and the hotel itself is extremely accessible. To the left of each hotel room door is a plaque that includes the room number in braille, as well as very large and legible raised tactile print. There is a manual switch on the wall inside the hotel room to turn the air conditioning on or off, as well as two tactile arrow buttons to adjust the temperature.

These examples will no doubt help to inform BCA’s future submission to the 2015 review of the Access to Premises Standards.
