Our CEO, Emma Bennison, reflects on her experience putting together a submission to the royal commission and the support – or lack thereof – she received.
While the disability royal commission is meant to provide a safe space for people to share their experiences of neglect and abuse, Emma has raised serious concerns around its ability to support the needs of people with disability through the submission process. She says the information provided about the process is scant, legalistic and unclear; the counselling service is difficult to access, and there appears to be a lack of empathy for those sharing their stories.
